Treasure Island got its name early in the 20th century, after several property owners attempted to boost sales of the properties being developed on the island by first burying and then pretending to discover a couple of wooden chests on the beach around 1915.

After claiming the chests were filled with treasure, the news of the discovery quickly spread and people began calling the island Treasure Island.

Treasure Island is a 3.8-mile barrier island that actually is made up of five separate islands.

There are also 3 distinct beach areas – Sunshine Beach to the north, Sunset Beach to the south and Municipal Beach/Treasure Island Beach in the middle.

Treasure Island lies between the Gulf of Mexico to the west and Boca Ciega Bayy to the east. View this video of TI to get an overview.

Treasure Island maintains a comfortable blend of mom and pop motels, permanent residents, savory restaurants and beach fun.

It is know for its wide beaches, shallow water, plenty of room to spread out, and the boardwalk.
